My name is Joost Verbrugge, fifth dan in jiujitsu and second dan in judo. Since July 2007, I’ve been the regular instructor at the club. I find it important that everyone feels welcome and can train with us at their own level. During a session, you might be challenged to push your boundaries, but in the end, everyone should leave feeling good, having learned something, and having enjoyed the training.
In 1998, I became a certified judo and jiujitsu instructor. That same year, I started working as a physical training instructor for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. After five years, I transitioned to the police, where I spent 19 years teaching use of force and firearms within various units and teams. I now work at a vocational college (ROC), training students in Law Enforcement. My classes are rooted in self-defense and the legal framework surrounding it.
I serve on the board of the Foundation for Registered Instructors in Risk Management and Resilience, and I’m a member of the national training committee for jiujitsu instructors within the Dutch Judo Federation. I’m also a certified dan examiner for the federation.
What I enjoy about teaching jiujitsu at Radbudo is that the group is always evolving, but there’s a core of dedicated members who show up consistently. We value and respect each other and support everyone at their own level.
So, when are you joining us on the mat?
